Senator Doris Turner

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Doris Turner announced eight school districts across Central Illinois will receive over $3 million in evidence-based funding, in addition to the base funding that the state provides.

“We want to make sure our schools in Central Illinois receive their fair share of available state funding,” said Turner (D-Springfield). “This money will give local school districts more tools to provide our children with a high-quality education that they deserve.”

The funding comes from the 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula — an overhaul of the way the state funds K-12 education. The law made school funding more equitable by calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing state revenue on those needs. The formula takes into account a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners, among other factors.

School districts across Central Illinois set to receive funding through the formula include:

  • Ball Chatham School District 5: $254,818
  • Decatur Public Schools District 61: $1,305,463
  • Edinburg School District 4: $3,844
  • Macon-Piatt Regional Office of Education 39: $260,224
  • Menard-Sangamon Regional Office of Education 51: $174,939
  • Rochester School District 3A: $126,477
  • South Fork School District 14: $32,073
  • Springfield School District 186: $1,108,951

The Fiscal Year 2026 budget invested $300 million in new funding into students’ success through the evidence-based funding model.
